2022: An exclusive program designed for residents and fellows who are interested in
influencing practice and policy development at the regional and national levels. The

negotiation skills, and gain a thorough understanding of organizational behavior and
    healthcare finance.
  • Morbidity & Mortality Case – July, 2022: Presented a case for the West Haven VA

Research Experience

RESIDENCY RESEARCH PROJECTS – DEPT. OF ANESTHESIOLOGY, YALE UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE

  • Retrospective cohort study: Blood pressure characteristics in arthroscopic shoulder
rotator cuff repair under inhalational sevoflurane alone or in conjunction with brachial
plexus block; investigating the hemodynamic effects of general anesthesia with
interscalene blocks versus general anesthesia alone.
  • Survey Study: The current usage of multimodal pain management in patients with IBD;
Survey sent out to IBD departments at major academic institutions across the country to
assess the use of multimodal pain management strategies including interventional
techniques, ketamine, and anticonvulsants in this patient population. Also aiming to
identify and eliminate the barriers to utilizing multimodal analgesia in hopes to lessen
the usage of opioids in the treatment of IBD.
  • Review Study: The effect of smoking on postoperative pain. Reviewing the current
evidence of smoking as a predictor of postoperative pain, along with the
neurobiological changes that occur with chronic tobacco exposure.
  • Case Report: Masseter muscle botox for the treatment of chronic neck and upper back
    pain.

MEDICAL SCHOOL RESEARCH PROJECTS – RUTGERS-ROBERT WOOD JOHNSON MEDICAL SCHOOL

  • Department of Anesthesiology, Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School

Phenylephrine and ephedrine in reducing hypotension from spinal block:
Retrospective study investigating whether administering IV phenylephrine with IV
ephedrine (versus ephedrine alone) reduced the incidence of hypotension in patients
receiving intrathecal ropivacaine for cesarean section. Results showed that
phenylephrine overall did not provide benefit, but was associated with increased
adverse effects in this patient population.

  • Department of Pediatric Surgery, Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School

The utility of chest x-ray (CXR) in blunt trauma: Retrospective study evaluating
whether chest x-ray is a necessary component of the initial evaluation of pediatric
patients presenting with blunt chest trauma. Aiming to provide evidence against
routine CXR for all pediatric blunt chest trauma patients, with the hypothesis that CXR
often provides little diagnostic value and may delay necessary and time-sensitive
    interventions.

HARVARD-LONGWOOD NIH T35 RESEARCH PROGRAM – BOSTON CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL

  • Lipid emulsions in parenteral nutrition-associated liver disease (PNALD) – Mark Puder,
    M.D., Ph.D. laboratory
  • Investigated the effects of various formulations of lipid emulsions in a murine model
to determine the formula with the lowest incidence of PNALD
  • Studied the mechanism of hepatoprotective effects of fish oil-based emulsions for
parenteral nutrition-dependent patients by exploring the roles of vitamin E and
    phytosterols in hepatoprotection.
  • Isolated Kupffer cells from the livers of mice to determine whether the anti-
inflammatory effects of the GPR120 receptor are essential for Omegaven-mediated
    protection from PNALD.

GRADUATE RESEARCH THESIS – JAVITCH GROUP, NEW YORK STATE PSYCHIATRIC INSTITUTE, DIVISION OF MOLECULAR
THERAPEUTICS

  • Investigated the relationship between odor processing and dopamine secretion in
Drosophila melanogaster. The brains of Drosophila expressing fluorescent DAT and
VMAT were dissected and isolated manually under a microscope, then subsequently
exposed to odors. The release of dopamine was recorded and quantified in real time via
detection of the activated fluorescent dopamine transporters.
